Rod and his family gave us a lift to the train station where we were catching the train to Vienna.
When we arrived at our host's place in Vienna Sandra suggested that we went with her to Schönbrunn Palace as she was going to the zoo with her baby. Both the palace and zoo is located in the same place.
We eventually found where to buy the tickets but decided that we didn't want to go in as we've seen a lot of palaces and from what we could see the interior would be similar.
Instead we admired the gardens. We especially liked the Gloriette Arch and the Neptune fountain.

I cooked an egg plant curry. Jay made roti. It was a struggle as the special flour was super sticky! However they tasted great.
24th April
Today we used the underground to head to the city. We located the information centre where we were given a tourist map.
On the map was a suggested walking tour which we started immediately.
First we went to the Opera House.
Then it was off to the famous St Stephen's Cathedral. We had a look inside.
From there we had a quick look at the exterior of Mozart's House - nothing special there.
We then got distracted by St Peter's Church and went off route.
Next was the Hofburg Palace and Heldenplatz (the square in front of the palace).
After that we headed to the museum quarter.
Disinterested in museums but hungry for food we again took a detour to go to the famous Naschmarkt. This had been recommended to us by Rod's mother (in Salzburg).
It wasn't the biggest market we've seen but it was good. We settled on buying chicken kebabs. They were delicious but too big! Sandra and Andy had recommended a cake at the market which I'd found but I was way too full to try it!
Back on our tour route we eventually found the Church of St Charles. The whole day people were trying to sell us tickets to Mozart concerts. Surprise, surprise there was a concert being held here too.
We then crossed the road and saw the exterior of the Musikverien.
Next was the Konzerthaus followed by Stadtpark. At the park there were statues of famous composers and.... a place where you could watch a Mozart concert!

Then we took a break at the House of Music before finishing the first tour at the Albertina.
We then started the second city walk! First we went through Burggarten and saw the Hofburg Palace from another angle.
Next we saw the Parliament building. It seemed to be undergoing some major renovations.
Then it was off to Rathauspark where we saw the City Hall and Burgtheatre.

After that we went to Minoritenkirche where there is a giant mosaic copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper.
Despite being tired we continued to Am Hof square and saw a church there.
Then we went through Judenplatz (Jewish Square) and to Hoher Market where there's a famous clock.
We checked out a supermarket and then finished the tour with Ruprechtskirche (St Rupert's Church).
We then caught the underground and walked back home stopping at the supermarket to buy some well deserved ice-cream!
Sandra and Andy cooked us chicken and vegetables on the BBQ for dinner.

Today we headed to the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens again. Sandra dropped us off nearby as she was taking Lily to a swimming class.

We looked at the parts of the gardens we didn't have time to see last time. Then we went to a bakery nearby for morning tea. On the way we saw the Lindt shop where we bought half price cherry liquor Easter eggs! Jay wasn't expecting it to be liquid inside so he got a surprise (and sticky fingers!).
We then walked back home stopping to look at anything interesting along the way.
We had lunch at home and rested.
In the afternoon we went with Sandra and her baby to the gardens of Hermesvilla. It was too windy at the playground so we ended up closer to the house. Sandra bought us all an ice-cream then we relaxed in the garden.
When we arrived home Jay made potato curry for dinner.
