Nottingham

 1st June

We had to leave the house early today so we spent an hour or two in the York town centre resting. We saw lots of squirrels in the park.

Then we caught the train to Nottingham arriving at lunchtime. Our host James met us at the station and walked with us back to his place.

We decided to head to the town centre. On the way there we saw the Greek Orthodox Church, St Barnabas Cathedral and the Albert Hall.

We had a quick peek into the City Council building and then went to the Information Centre. There we found a self guided trail to do. From the information centre we walked to the Old Market Square and Brian Clough Statue.

Then we took a peak at the exterior of the Theatre Royal.

After a few false starts we found the Sky Mirror located outside the Nottingham Playhouse.

The next noteworthy stop was Nottingham Castle. Except it should be renamed Nottingham Garden and it's castle ruins! Unimpressed we didn't bother entering that one. The castle gate was nice though.

Then we saw the Robin Hood statue.

After that we checked out (reputedly) England's oldest Inn - Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. It's rumoured to date back to 1189.

The next stop was the city of caves. Our self guided tour was halted as we decided this one was worth an in depth look. The tour of the caves was excellent and the tour guide was interesting. There are over 500 of these nammade caves beneath the city. The sandstone was easy to dig out so people lived in them for hundreds of years.

The walking tour then continued. We saw the Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery.

After that we walked past the National Justice Museum and St Mary's Church.

Then we bypassed The National Videogame Arcade and finished the loop with the first major Boots pharmacy store (it's a huge chain in England).

Then we walked back to our accommodation, cooked dinner and went to sleep.

2nd June

We woke up to heavy rain so had a lazy start to the day.

Once it had cleared up a bit we walked to Wollaton Park. It was lovely.

In the centre of the park we found the Natural History Museum. It was really good. Not very big, but very interesting.

Wollaton Park is a Deer Park. Eventually we saw one deer!

The next place on our itinerary was University Park. It had a lovely lake.

After that we walked back. The weather held up better than expected but my feet had had enough!
